For those that are interested….how to update your Sony Blu-ray player’s firmware

I noticed today that some people don’t know how to update their blu-ray firmware. So I’ll tell you how to.

1.) If your blu-ray player is internet connected and you have a flash drive (or memory card) plugged in all you have to do is go over to settings and hit enter on Network update.

2.) The other way is to go to sony.com, click on service and support, and software downloads then you choose your BDP model and then you choose what OS you are running.

2a.) Once that is up download the file, it’s an executable. The exceutable turns into an iso an image file, You have to use Nero or some other product like that. Then you burn it to a DVD or CD.

2b.) Then just put the disc in the blu-ray player and it will load the disc and say that the files on the disc contain a newer version of the BDP’s firmware and software and it will ask you if you want to install it. Once you hit ok, the screen will go black and it will take around 20 minutes or so for the software and firmware to be updated…when it is done it will say “FINISH” then you need to take the disc out and restart the player and there you go.

If there are any questions let me know.

Until next time,

Brendan

  1. Rowan says:

You have to burn the firmware to a CD-R. If you burn it to a DVD-R it won’t be recognised.
