Please read that article when you get a chance. In the past few years I have gone to a number of 3D films either in the IMAX or just regular 3D. I like watching MY movies in 3D but for television, I don’t think that I want to have to put on a pair of glasses every single time I want to watch Television. Granted, it won’t be that way at first but it will get there eventually. As time goes on, we get closer and closer to a holodeck. Then when that comes….I will love it. But until then, maybe 3D television will be cool, but maybe the question is, will I want to. Tell me what you think.
Until next time,
Brendan

Improvements over firmware version 015: * Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs. Benefits provided by previous updates and included in version 019: * Improved BD-Live performance to enhance interactivity. * BD-Live functionality. BD-Live allows you to enjoy additional content and services while playing a BD-Live capable disc. For optimal performance, we recommend that you use a Broadband Internet connection to access BD-Live content and services. oBD-Live content and services require external USB flash memory (sold separately) for local storage. * Improved sensitivity to the Remote Commander® signal while the player is in stand-by mode.

I noticed today that some people don’t know how to update their blu-ray firmware. So I’ll tell you how to.
1.) If your blu-ray player is internet connected and you have a flash drive (or memory card) plugged in all you have to do is go over to settings and hit enter on Network update.
2.) The other way is to go to sony.com, click on service and support, and software downloads then you choose your BDP model and then you choose what OS you are running.
2a.) Once that is up download the file, it’s an executable. The exceutable turns into an iso an image file, You have to use Nero or some other product like that. Then you burn it to a DVD or CD.
2b.) Then just put the disc in the blu-ray player and it will load the disc and say that the files on the disc contain a newer version of the BDP’s firmware and software and it will ask you if you want to install it. Once you hit ok, the screen will go black and it will take around 20 minutes or so for the software and firmware to be updated…when it is done it will say “FINISH” then you need to take the disc out and restart the player and there you go.
If there are any questions let me know.
Until next time,
Brendan

So today I read an article, stating that Microsoft is extending the date that allows the manufactures to install Windows XP on new Machines. The new date is April 30, 2010. “Microsoft only allows Windows XP Pro or Windows XP Tablet to be bundled with new PCs as restore media, which the company refers to as an “XP downgrade.” (taken from http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/04/04/microsoft_allows_hp_to_wipe_windows_7_with_xp_through_2010.html).
It is interesting that Microsoft has tried to kill XP many times before and attempted to force users to go to Vista and to embrace the new Windows 7. Every time that the date gets closer to kill XP, they extend it. I think that XP is perfect and I know many people who will continue to use it for as long as they can. But a time will come when XP won’t be supported by most. So we will have to see what happens in the next year. Does anyone think that they will continue to extend the date?
Until next time,
Brendan

I feel like such an ass for not updating as much as I should. So for those of you that read I’m sorry.
What’s new:
1.) BDP-S350 020 update released at end of Jan
2.) I am rebuilding my PC, if people have ideas of what I should put in it, let me know.
3.) Apple’s new iPod Shuffle. A friend just got one so I will let you know what I think.
4.) Windows 7….i…s….a…w…e….some
5.) iTunes 8.1 update
I remember back in 2006 when I was messing with the then-new Vista RCs and betas….it crashed so damn much I’m not kidding how much. I downloaded and installed the Windows 7 Beta on 4 different machines, 3 laptops and one desktop. I can’t begin to tell you how much better Windows 7 is. NO CRASHES, so far anyway. I recommend that when Windows 7 comes out, dump Vista, it’s a piece of crap. So if you have the oppurtunity to run Windows 7 beta or RC, please do so. Also iTunes 8.1 is now faster, especially on the Windows side. So make sure you get it. Also I got a 7 year old PC from a friend, and I have decided to gut it and rebuild. Here’s what I found from the motherboard:

Processor:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037 (maybe I should go Quad core?)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003 (for cooling down my processor, anyone have this?)
So I will try to update more regulary.

Sorry for being absent for a while. Well let’s talk about the biggest thing right now…Jobs taking a LOA from Apple. Jobs has had his hand in everything and when I say everything I mean everything at Apple since 1998 when he came back. Jobs is also the father of the iPod and if the iPod hadn’t come around Apple might have gone down the toliet. Now with Jobs not there, I am hoping he will return because for the last 10 years Apple didn’t come out with everything they could think of, Jobs was very careful in allowing what products would be released, Jobs is smart because all Apple products are certainly stylish and certainly innovative. I want to wish Jobs all the best and also I want to pray for Obama as he settles in as our new President.
So until next time!

Now some of you may have heard AMD’s big annoucement and for those of you that haven’t I will explain:
AMD is shutting down their manufactering division to cut costs due to the recent losses in the market to Intel over the last few years. So they decided to create a new company and infuse $6 billion over five years into it. The Foundry Company will also assume approximately $1.2 billion of AMD’s existing debt. AMD will first infuse $1.2 billion. This effectively means that AMD is not as powerful as they used to be and don’t have much left in them.

While consumers scramble in search of the elusive Wii, is Nintendo already providing glimpses into the console’s successor?
According to a blog post at What They Play, Nintendo is showing early presentations of its future console poised to arrive in 2011. Citing industry sources, What They Play reports the device, dubbed “Wii HD”, will include high-definition graphics and an emphasis on digitally-distributed content.
Nintendo won’t remark on the claims, telling the site they don’t “comment on speculation or rumor.”
This follows a report over the weekend from a Japanese site claiming Nintendo will introduce a new version of DS before year’s end. The revamped handheld would reportedly include a built-in camera, music player, and improved wireless functionality.
The answers to these rumors could arrive tomorrow, when Nintendo holds its fall media summit in San Francisco. In the meantime, readers, what features would you like to see in a redesigned Wii or DS?
————————————————————————————-
A new Wii?? That would be cool but Nintendo should do something about current Wii owners that don’t have HD. What do you guys think?

“The Future is Blu or I should say Disc based”
For those of you that believe that Downloads are the next generation…as that may be true it’s going to be a while before that so happens.
1.) HD takes up a lot of space
2.) Download will take a while for a full HD movie
3.) Hard Drives
4.) DVD and Blu-ray similarities
Remember that DVDs started at a high price and it wasn’t until the players dropped below $150 before people started to buy DVD. Now having said that, DVD and Blu-ray can exist harmoniously, HD owners get Blu and non-HD use DVD. So it took a few years for DVD players to drop down in price before people bought them and some people thought that DVD would die because VHS was good enough. Now for some Upconversion DVD players will work fine, but for those who want to see true HD will buy a Blu-Ray player. It will be another 2 years before adoption becomes more wide. For HD downloads, a full HD movie would be around 25GB and on a DSL connection will take hours, so until connection speeds increase and people have bigger Hard Drives, this won’t happen and with existing DVRs most people won’t be able to keep movies on their DVRs for very long because if they get movies in HD then they will record shows in HD and that will take up an enormeous amount of space. I for one like having a disc because as a movie lover I like having films on a disc that I can take with me anywhere and if I go to a friend’s house I won’t be able to burn it on a DVD I would have to use a BD-R. So in short we are another 5-10 years away from HD downloads if it all because I like to have the disc that I can take anywhere or anywhere in my house and watch. So the two formats can exist and HD downloads are years off if they ever do come. So you decide on the future.
